Transformation of a Confined Space into a Bright and Functional Suite

This project involved combining two adjoining rooms, previously dark and impractical, to create a spacious, bright, and harmonious suite.

The Initial State: A Dark and Cluttered Space

The space originally consisted of:

  • A first room with a small skylight, providing minimal natural light.
  • A second dark bedroom, featuring a wooden mezzanine with a steep and unsafe ladder-style staircase.
  • Dark brown wood paneling and a sloped ceiling, further closing in the space.
  • A small window, limiting natural brightness.

The Transformation: A Luminous and Airy Suite

To reorganize and modernize the space, we implemented the following changes:
Merged the two rooms to create a more open and fluid volume.
Designed a custom-made staircase and metal railing, adding lightness and safety while enhancing the aesthetic.
Preserved and highlighted the original beams, painting them white along with the wood paneling, to brighten the space and create a sense of openness.
Created a true master suite:

  • A new en-suite bathroom in the lower bedroom.
  • A restructured mezzanine, now offering two sleeping spaces, a built-in bookshelf, and a cozy nook for children.
Harmonized the color palette with soft and neutral tones, accented by dusty pink accessories to add warmth.
    Introduced contemporary metallic elements:
  • A black metal railing, bringing a light yet structured aesthetic.
  • A glass and metal shower partition, adding a modern and elegant touch.

The Result: An Airy, Functional, and Elegant Suite

This transformation has turned the space into a bright, fluid, and optimized living area, blending classic charm with modern elegance. The master suite, with its thoughtfully designed mezzanine, now offers a warm and practical space, perfectly suited to the family’s needs.
